Carrot cake is a sweet cake made with raw grated or blended carrot, eggs, oil and sugar. In Brazil it is usually served with a chocolate topping, often in the afternoon.

The best-known Brazilian recipe blends the batter, which makes it light and bright orange.

History

Recipes that used carrot to sweeten cakes appear in Europe when sugar was expensive. The chocolate-topped version spread in Brazil in the 20th century.

Do I need an account?
